Our beginnings in Switzerland

Unilabs was founded in 1987 through the acquisition of three Swiss laboratories previously owned by Corning. This marked the beginning of a diagnostic network built on quality and reliability, which quickly expanded beyond Switzerland into other European markets.

1991–1997

Building central laboratory expertise

Unilabs expanded its Swiss laboratory network and established its first central laboratory, serving both private and public hospitals. This phase strengthened operational efficiency and laid the foundations for scalable, high-quality diagnostic services.

1998–2006

Expanding across Europe

Following its listing in Switzerland, Unilabs accelerated its international growth, expanding into France and Portugal while continuing to grow in Italy and reinforcing its leadership in Switzerland.

2007–2014

Becoming a broader diagnostic group

The merger with Capio Diagnostics marked a key milestone, expanding Unilabs’ capabilities into diagnostic imaging. This broadened its service offering and strengthened its position as a major European diagnostics provider.

2014–today

Growing as a connected diagnostics network

Unilabs has continued to grow across laboratory testing, radiology, pathology, genetics and specialised diagnostics. By integrating these capabilities, it has built a more connected and comprehensive diagnostic offer for healthcare professionals and patients.

Histology, cytology, immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology support diagnosis, classification and therapy-relevant decisions.

Pathology

Genetics

Genetic testing supports the assessment of inherited risk, disease mechanisms and selected therapy-relevant questions.
