Laboratory analyses are generally covered by compulsory health insurance only if they are medically indicated and prescribed by an authorised healthcare professional.

If there is no valid medical prescription, the analysis may be considered a self-paid service. In this case, the costs must be paid by the patient.

If only some of the requested analyses are covered by your health insurance, you may receive an invoice for the services that are not covered.

If the invoiced services may be eligible for reimbursement, you can submit a reimbursement request to your health insurance together with the required documents.

Whether reimbursement is granted depends on the applicable legal requirements and your individual insurance coverage. Please note that the Unilabs invoice must still be paid within the stated payment period, even if you submit it to your insurance provider.

You can find the analysis date on your invoice next to the case number.

In some cases, there may be a certain period of time between the analysis date and the invoice date. For insurance purposes, the treatment date is generally the relevant date, i.e. the analysis date.

Laboratory analyses are carried out at the request of the prescribing doctor or medical practice.

The prescribing practice also provides the billing information. If you have questions about the analysis performed or the billing address, please contact the doctor or medical practice that ordered the test.

Please contact the billing team for your region and provide the following information:

  • Your invoice number

  • Your full name

  • The reason for your enquiry

  • Relevant documents, if available
