From a large laboratory site to a regional routine and emergency laboratory with an expanded testing portfolio and daily blood collection services

Looking back

At the end of 2013, the two large sites Unilabs Zurich on Dufourstrasse and Unilabs St. Gallen on Müller-Friedbergstrasse were consolidated into a new central laboratory in Dübendorf, the Unilabs Core Lab East, in order to enable more efficient collaboration.

The St. Gallen site was nevertheless retained, no longer as a large laboratory for specialised testing, but as a local emergency and routine laboratory designed to provide the shortest possible turnaround times.

The new laboratory at Walenbüchelstrasse 1 in St. Gallen, which opened on 1 July 2015, processes an average of 350 to 450 orders per day.

Following a demanding relocation, by 2018 we were already celebrating our third year at the new St. Gallen location. This was made possible above all by our well-coordinated team, whose commitment played a key role in successfully managing the relocation and start-up phase.

Today

Our laboratory provides diagnostic testing in the following areas:

• Clinical chemistry

• Immunochemistry

• Haematology

• Coagulation

• Urinalysis

• Analysis of puncture fluids

• Malaria diagnostics

• Cytology

As an additional service, we also offer daily blood collection.

To optimise order processing and respond to strong demand, we have expanded the range of tests performed directly on site, including:

• Vitamin D

• Vitamin B12

• Folic acid

• Holotranscobalamin

Our courier network has also been expanded, allowing us to serve the regions of Appenzell, the Rhine Valley, Thurgau and St. Gallen, with parts of Toggenburg also planned for coverage.
